On stage, Kate recently starred in the Toronto premiere of Almost, Maine by John Cariani which opened to rave reviews at The Tarragon Theatre. Other favorite regional credits include Dr. Joan Scott in Who's Life Is It Anyway?, Georgeanne in Five Women Wearing the Same Dress and the challenging triple role of Ellen/Mrs. Saunders/Betty in Cloud 9 for Pennsylvania Centre Stage.

Kate's ancestry is Scandinavian, Spurgeon translates to "Little Sparrow" in Norse. From good Viking stock, Kate was born in the Great White North and grew up in Scarborough, Ontario (a suburb of Toronto interestingly where George F. Walker's The Line is set) then moved to Montreal, Quebec where she studied political science and theatre at McGill University. Shortly after, Kate went on to earn a full scholarship at Pennsylvania State University in their MFA in Acting conservatory program. Kate is an avid traveler with some of her favorite destinations so far being Dubai, Florence and Wales. Kate is also a fitness nut, addicted to hot yoga as well as a certified Spinning instructor.
